1. Application in washing and water treatment


Because sodium hexametaphosphate has a strong ability to complex and scale-inhibit metal ions, especially alkaline earth metal ions such as calcium and magnesium. Therefore, it can prevent the iron and manganese dissolved in the water from making the water red and black due to oxidation, and at the same time prevent the precipitation of calcium and magnesium ions to form scale and reduce the heat transfer efficiency.

2. Application in mineral processing and oil field industry


Sodium hexametaphosphate is a commonly used inhibitor in flotation, mainly used to inhibit quartz and silicate minerals, as well as carbonate minerals such as calcite and limestone. The inhibition mechanism of sodium hexametaphosphate mainly includes: firstly, when sodium hexametaphosphate inhibits albite, zircon, nepheline, pyrochlore and halloysite in flotation, according to the tracer atom test, six Sodium metaphosphate can non-selectively reduce the adsorption of sodium oleate in the above minerals, and form a stable complex with multivalent metal ions on the mineral surface. For example, in nickel ore flotation, sodium hexametaphosphate and MgOH+ on the surface of serpentine generate MgNa4 P6 O18, thereby inhibiting serpentine. Second, sodium hexametaphosphate is easily ionized in aqueous solution and can react with Ca2+ on the mineral surface and in the liquid phase. For example, when calcite and cassiterite are separated by flotation, sodium hexametaphosphate forms a complex CaNa4 P6 O18 on the surface of calcite, but CaNa4 P6 O18 cannot completely stay on the surface of calcite, but is also adsorbed on the surface of cassiterite, so cassiterite will also It is inhibited, which makes the selectivity of its inhibition worse and reduces the adsorption amount of the collector on the mineral surface.


In addition, sodium hexametaphosphate also acts as a dispersant in the flotation process. During the flotation process of nickel ore, the serpentine mud covers the surface of pentlandite, which is very unfavorable to the flotation process. Therefore, adding a certain amount of sodium hexametaphosphate is very beneficial to the flotation recovery of pentlandite. This is mainly because the addition of sodium hexametaphosphate disperses the flotation pulp and reduces the coverage of serpentine on the surface of pentlandite. Its dispersion mechanism is mainly manifested as: reducing the surface potential of minerals and increasing the electrostatic repulsion between mineral particles. Because sodium hexametaphosphate is a linear polymer compound, its chain length can reach at least 20 to 100 units, when it is adsorbed on the mineral surface, it will increase the steric hindrance effect between particles. In the oil field industry, sodium hexametaphosphate can be used as a drilling mud additive to avoid the precipitation of polyvalent metal ions, improve the salt resistance of the mud, and reduce the loss of water in the mud. In addition, dissolving a certain amount of sodium hexametaphosphate and injecting it into the water pipe can form a thin film on the pipe wall to prevent pipe corrosion.




3. Application in metallurgy and metal anticorrosion


Adding sodium hexametaphosphate to some additives to spray the steelmaking converter under a certain temperature and force can greatly prolong the life of the converter. Sodium hexametaphosphate chelates divalent metal ions in solution to form a positively charged polyelectrolyte that forms a dense, continuous film when adsorbed on a metal surface. The film can completely cover the corrosion micro-battery, reduce or prevent the passage of corrosion current and play an anti-corrosion effect.



4. Application in color film processing and printing



Sodium hexametaphosphate is an excellent water softener, which must be added when preparing the color developer to reduce the hardness of the water, prevent the formation of calcareous texture, ensure clear and bright colors, and have no effect on the oxidation and reduction of the developer.


5. Application in fiber and paper industry


Sodium hexametaphosphate is used in the fiber industry, which can inhibit the formation of metal soap in the refining process, make it easy to remove the colloid in raw cotton, and improve the refining efficiency; in the bleaching process, it can prevent the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide and reduce the loss of bleaching agent. Improve bleaching efficiency; in dyeing, it can prevent the color change of the dyed matter, maintain the true color of the dye, and prevent the occurrence of dye spots, poor hand feeling, yellowing of white cloth and reduction of fiber strength. In papermaking, sodium hexametaphosphate and sulfonated benzaldehyde can be used as a dispersant for steel plate coatings to disperse lead carbonate pigments.
