Polyacrylamide, referred to as PAM, is divided into anionic (HPAM), cationic (CPAM), and nonionic (NPAM). It is a linear polymer and one of the most widely used water-soluble polymer compounds. Polyacrylamide and its derivatives can be used as effective flocculants, thickeners, paper strengtheners, and liquid drag reducers, etc. They are widely used in water treatment, papermaking, petroleum, coal, mining and metallurgy, geology, textiles, construction and other industrial sectors.


This article mainly introduces the effect of polyacrylamide in dry mortar.


1.Enhance bond strength and durability:

Polyacrylamide can significantly improve the strength and durability of mortar. When the dosage is 0.2%, the compressive strength of mortar can be increased by more than 15%; when the dosage is 0.5%, the compressive strength can be increased by more than 20%. In addition, polyacrylamide has good water resistance and weather resistance, which makes the mortar after addition very durable and can extend the service life of the building.


2. Improve construction performance: 

Polyacrylamide can significantly reduce the viscosity and internal friction of mortar, making it easier to flow and fill, thereby improving the fluidity and construction performance of mortar. This helps to improve construction efficiency and maintain the uniformity of mortar, which is especially important in large-scale engineering construction and long-distance transportation of mortar.


3. Improve crack resistance: 

Polyacrylamide can effectively improve the internal structure and organizational state of mortar, reduce the concentration of tensile stress and the probability of cracking. It can react with calcium hydroxide in cement mortar to generate a substance with a flexible skeleton, increase the ductility and plasticity of mortar, and improve its tensile strength and toughness.


4. Water retention and lubrication: 

When polyacrylamide is used in dry mortar, it can play a role of thickening, while increasing the flexural strength, impermeability and bonding strength. It can improve the workability of mortar, improve work efficiency, save energy, labor, materials and money.


5. Waterproof and anti-seepage: 

Polyacrylamide mixed with cement mortar can effectively improve the bonding strength and elasticity of cement mortar, and can be used for exterior wall blocking, increase adhesion, prevent leakage, make the exterior wall have good toughness, and have good waterproof effect
